Dental Veneers

A veneer is a thin layer of tooth coloured material placed over a tooth surface, either to improve the aesthetics of a tooth, or to protect a damaged tooth surface.

There are two main types of material used to fabricate a veneer, Composite Resin and Porcelain.

A Composite Resin veneer is directly placed (built-up in the mouth) onto a tooth surface – often without any tooth removal, whereas a Porcelain Laminate veneer is only indirectly fabricated at the technician laboratory, after taking a mould of the prepared tooth and later bonded onto the tooth surface.

Composite Resin Veneer

Advantages:

  • It often requires no tooth surface reduction.
  • It is cheaper than Porcelain Laminate Veneer.
  • It can easily repaired in the event of chipping.

Disadvantages:

  • It does not give you such a natural look as Porcelain Laminate Veneer.
  • Over the time, it will get discoloured.

Porcelain Laminate Veneer (PLV)

Advantages:

  • It gives you such much superior natural look than Composite Resin Veneer.
  • It has stain-proof surface.
  • It tends to last 10 years without degrading.

Disadvantages:

  • It often requires 0.5 mm of tooth surface reduction.
