Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Invisalign
Invisalign is a popular orthodontic treatment option that utilizes clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth. Some of the more common questions Clients ask about Invisalign include:
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment method used to straighten teeth without traditional “Wire” braces. It involves a series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners that are worn over the teeth over the given duration.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign works by applying controlled force to specific teeth at different stages of the treatment. Each set of aligners is worn for approximately two weeks before being replaced by the next set, gradually shifting the teeth into their desired positions.
What are the benefits of Invisalign?
Some of the benefits of Invisalign include its discreet appearance, as the aligners are clear and nearly invisible. They are also removable, making it easier to clean teeth and allowing for greater flexibility in eating and oral hygiene routines.
Who is a suitable candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign is suitable for the majority of people, including teenagers and adults, who have mild to moderate orthodontic issues such as crooked teeth, gaps, and minor bite problems. However, severe cases may still require traditional braces.
At our clinic, our patient age for Invisalign is from 7 to 84 year old.
How long does Invisalign treatment typically take?
The duration of Invisalign treatment varies depending on the complexity of the case. On average, treatment can range from 3 months to 2 years.
Is Invisalign painful?
Invisalign may cause mild discomfort or pressure, especially when a new set of aligners is first worn for the first couple of days. This is due to a normal part of the teeth movement process as the teeth are gradually shifting. Any discomfort typically subsides within a few days. Invisalign causes far less discomfort than “Wire” braces.
How often should I wear my Invisalign aligners?
For effective results, it is recommended to wear Invisalign aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day. They should only be removed for eating, drinking (except for water), and oral hygiene activities.
Do I get similar Invisalign treatment outcome regardless which dentist/ orthodontist I get treated by ?
Compared to the “Wire” braces treatment, Invisalign outcome still varies depending upon which doctor you are going to be treated by. This is because Invisalign treatment plan can vary much more than with “Wire” braces and heavily depending upon the Invisalign experience of each doctor.
How do I clean my Invisalign aligners?
Invisalign aligners should be cleaned daily with a soft-bristle toothbrush and clear, anti-bacterial soap. Avoid using hot water, as it may warp the aligners. Specialized cleaning tablets are also available.
Can I eat or drink with Invisalign on?
It is recommended to remove Invisalign aligners when eating or drinking anything other than water. This helps prevent damage to the aligners and maintains good oral hygiene. However, our dentist will assess you condition and may recommend you to wear aligners during the course due to the large amount of teeth movement.
Can I play sports or musical instruments with Invisalign?
Invisalign aligners can be worn during most sports activities. However, for contact sports, it is advisable to use a protective mouthguard. Playing wind instruments may require an adjustment period.
How often do I have to visit the dentist during Invisalign treatment
Regular check-ups with the dentist are necessary, usually every 6 to 8 weeks, to monitor progress and receive new sets of aligners.
Is Invisalign covered by insurance?
Most of the private dental insurance plans covers a portion of the cost of Invisalign treatment as a part of “Major dental treatment”. It is recommended to check with your insurance provider for specific details about coverage.
Remember, individual experiences with Invisalign may vary, so consulting a qualified orthodontist or dentist for personalized advice is crucial before beginning any orthodontic treatment.
