What kind of teeth should I have orthodontic treatment?

There are two main reasons for starting orthodontic treatment.

(1) The patient wants to be cured.

(2) Cases in which orthodontic treatment is recommended by the dentist as a result of treatment for a tooth, such as a tooth eruption.
(Bite problems)

Cases in which patients may want to be cured

Many people begin orthodontic treatment mainly for aesthetic reasons.

The advantages of orthodontic treatment are

You can be free from the complex of misaligned teeth and have a natural smile without worrying about people’s eyes.
You can have confidence in your smile.

Cases in which orthodontic treatment is recommended by the dentist as a result of treatment for a tooth, such as a tooth eruption.(Bite problems)

Disorganized teeth are difficult to care for, making them more susceptible to tooth decay and gum disease.

If you work hard, you may be able to compensate for the difficulty in caring for them with dental care. However, we cannot do anything about the misaligned teeth themselves.

Although some patients may say that only the disorder of the front teeth should be well aligned, the meshing of the teeth is also important.

These teeth look well aligned, but the patient started orthodontic treatment because of a bad bite.

Teeth that are growing at an angle will be defeated by the force of biting, causing them to tilt further.

Depending on the direction of tilt, they may push against surrounding teeth, affecting the entire dentition.

In the so-called “overjet” condition, it is difficult for the front teeth to “bite off” each other, so eating is mainly done with the back teeth.

When patients are able to chew firmly through orthodontic treatment, the facial muscles become more active, and the left-right difference in facial features, lines, and wrinkles can be expected to improve.

Chewing and jaw exercises also stimulate the secretion of saliva, which activates the brain.

Saliva not only aids digestion, but is also said to help improve the immune system.

The need for orthodontic treatment should be determined from a long-term, combined perspective, not just from an appearance standpoint.
